It was organized by Fyre Media, a company that created an app for booking music talent. The festival was promoted by celebrities and influencers as a once-in-a-lifetime experience with top-notch amenities, performers, and guests. However, the festival turned out to be a complete scam, as the organizers failed to deliver on any of their promises. The attendees arrived at a chaotic site with no infrastructure, no food, no water, no security, and no entertainment. Many of them were stranded on the island for days without transportation or communication. The festival sparked outrage and lawsuits from the attendees, the investors, the vendors, and the local workers who were never paid. The founder of Fyre Media, Billy McFarland, was arrested and sentenced to six years in prison for wire fraud and other charges.
